Contest Execution and Rules

  • Must purchase a Weekend Pass on or before June 30, 2023. Passes purchased by the cutoff date but later transferred are still eligible, as are seats later filled at tables purchased before the cutoff.
  • Must dance in the main ballroom between 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM Friday, August 25, 2023 for qualifications.
  • Each participating dance pro will select 2 potential candidates from the qualification round on Friday evening to be put into a pool of eligible candidates. Pros will then draw a number to see which pro will choose their partner first, second, third and so forth. Each Pro will choose the candidate of their choice from the candidate pool.
  • Selected candidates will be posted on Facebook, the SDM! website and sent an email notification.
  • The Dance Pros and their candidate (a ‘team’) will then meet to introduce themselves, decide dance type(s) (WCS, ECS, Hustle), plan their strategy, and to pick the songs that they want to perform to from the official list of selected songs. Optionally, the dance pro may offer to practice with the candidate but it should not be expected. The candidate may offer to take a private lesson with the pro at their desired rate, but it is not required nor forbidden.
  • Contestants should come to the Dinner Show prepared to dance after the other performances. An announcement will be made when staging is to begin with further instructions.
  • Performances must be PG-13 or less.
  • No lifts. Performers must keep one foot on the floor at all times.
  • No dangerous or reckless theatrics, dance moves, or actions of any kind.
  • No props.
  • Performers are encouraged to ‘mime the music’ with funny antics, exaggerated dance moves and gestures.
  • Each performance will be 2 minutes in length.
  • Teams will be line up either on stage left or stage right in a randomized order.
  • Teams will compete against each other in the order in which they are lined up.
  • Performances will be judged by the audience, who will be judging on the quality of the dance performance and/or how much fun the performers appeared to be having. Compatibility and interplay between the partnership will also be taken into account.
  • After each set of team performances, contestants will stay on the dance floor as the audience votes.
  • The winner of each round will be directed to line back up on either the left or the right. The team not selected will leave the dance floor. This process continues until one couple is left standing.

All American Dance Off!

Dancers who wish to compete will need to register before 8:00 PM Friday Night and will need to be in the main ballroom for open dancing between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM, wearing a special identifier. Our secret agents will select 20 people of all skill levels to participate in the dance off. At 11:30 PM the selected candidates will be paired up and lined up along the dance floor, half on each side. One couple from each side will take center stage to dance to a DJ selected song, and then the opposing couple will do the same, then both teams will dance at the same time, battling it out, doing their best to dazzle the audience with skill, or make them bust out with laughter. The audience will determine who wins each round until only one couple remains standing. Always a ton o fun!
